Welcome

An initiative funded by the Bilateral Fund of the

Environment, Ecosystems and Climate Change

Programme supported from Norway Grants 2014-2021

Description and justification of the initiative:

ARESC   is   a   Czech-Norwegian   initiative   aimed   at   fostering   research cooperation   in   the   field   of   sustainable,   smart   and   resilient   cities .   This network   for   research   cooperation   is   being   developed   by   the   Faculty   of Transportation   Sciences   of   the   Czech   Technical   University   in   Prague (FTS   CTU),   the   Faculty   of   Science   and   Technology   of   the   University of    Stavanger    (FST    UoS)    and    other    relevant    entities    in    the    Czech Republic    and    in    Norway,    including    civic    associations,    enterprises    and municipalities.   The   research   cooperation   among   stakeholders   in   this   field is    being    encouraged    by    means    of    two    planned    workshops    that    will facilitate   the   exchange   and   broadening   of   the   knowledge   about   planning in    the    context    of    smart,    sustainable    and    resilient    cities.    The    first workshop   will   be   held   in   Stavanger   in   June   2-3 .   The   second   workshop will be held in  Prague in June 9-10. In   a   highly   dynamic   urban   environment   faced   by   increasing   effects   of climate   change   the   role   of   universities   in   the   formation   of   citizens   of   the future   with   a   holistic   approach   to   urban   problems   become   even   more challenging.   Therefore   it   becomes   essential   for   European   universities   to engage   with   other   relevant   stakeholders   in   order   to   gradually   prepare   their academic    staff    and    students    towards    a    mission-oriented    approach    to research and innovation for climate-neutral and smart cities.
